Why volunteering matters

At the Booth Centre, we are a community where everyone is seen, heard, and valued. For people experiencing the isolation of homelessness, a conversation or a shared activity can be the first step towards the life they want to be living.

Our volunteers are the bridge between isolation and community. Each week, volunteers spend their time to make our community the thriving, loving place that it is. It’s so much more than working in the kitchen, or supporting in well-being sessions, or answering phones, it’s being the point of human connection and understanding that every single person in Manchester deserves.

Together we can:

  • Fulfil potential: You can help people move from surviving to thriving.

  • Build community: Join a team of passionate, like-minded Mancunians.

  • Find purpose: Know that your efforts directly contributed to someone’s journey.

What our volunteers say…

“My favourite thing about volunteering with the Booth Centre is that I feel that I am able to still make a difference to people, make some contribution to improving the lives of those who, primarily for no fault of their own, are at the bottom of the heap.”

Dave, Community Volunteer

“Volunteering gave me purpose. Whether it was preparing meals in the kitchen, serving guests, or simply being present for others, it gave me a sense of contentment and meaning. Even when I had little, I could still give something. That feeling is hard to describe but deeply fulfilling.”

M, Centre Volunteer
